When the Speysider visited Islay, Teaninich paired with Laphroaig... Now that's an interesting twist!
The Single Cask is an award winning independent whisky bottler that want to give the customer the most natural and authentic example of a whisky there can be.
Specially selected casks and unadulterated cask strength bottlings. No colouring, no chill filtration, no bs.
This edition is a beautiful Teaninich 12 Year Old. Aged in an ex-bourbon barrel and then finished in a quarter cask, built up from ex-Laphroaig cask staves!
Teaninich Distillery is located in the town of Alness, on the east coast of the Scottish Highlands. Owned by drinks giant Diageo, the spirit produced at Teaninich is primarily used for blends, one example of these being the Johnny Walker Red Label.
Aside from the famous Flora & Fauna series, there are no official botllings from Teaninich Distillery... all the more reason to try this cracker!
Laphroaig on the other hand, is a classic west-coast islander, home on the Queen of the Hebrides - the Isle of Islay. World famous for it's distinctively strong peat and maritime profile, a Laphroaig finish is bound to be interesting.
What's this about a quarter cask? Due to the smaller size and volume of the cask, the spirit finished in a quarter cask has a higher percentage of surface area contact with the wood. As the wood does all the magic, these sort of finishes greatly intensify the resulting flavour and colour profile of a whisky.
